Badness. Hand is worse. Doctor says no work for a week. When we took the bandage off, my finger was all black and white and purple. Pretty colors, but not for living tissue. Had to call in a hand specialist to lance it, and if it's not better tomorrow I'll need surgery. Don't want surgery.

Splint now, and sling. Home IV set too, to pump myself full of antibiotics three times a day. No fun. Can't sew or crochet. Can't even hold a book very well. Dumb cat, biting me. Dumb me, getting bit.

Lidocaine hurts. Watching someone mine your finger after it's been lido'd doesn't hurt, but is very intellectually freaky.

Boyfriends are a goodness. A boyfriend who will wrap your arms in plastic bags and wash your hair, and not laugh at you, is worth his weight in gold.

Darn, darn, darn. Anyone know a lot of hands-free ways to amuse oneself?

Hmm. TV is the first that comes to mind, but it gets old fast. Talking on the telephone. Singing.

I will definitely let you know if I think of anything else.

Oh my God. Banshee, that's so awful. I'm really sorry.

Try unabridged books-on-tape from the library. I love them for driving. They don't quite satisfy the reading urge, but it's better than limiting yourself entirely to the narratives available on TV.

Oh, good idea - and one I shouldhave thought of myself, since I've been working my way through 'Gone With the Wind' on tape for a few weeks... I think a library trip is definitely called for - thanks!

Well (*wicked grin*) if that good-as-gold boyfriend's willing to help, I'm sure the two of you can some up with something.

Kightp suggested what first came to my mind, Rivka what came next. :) If you like, drop me a line and I'll call you and attempt to prattle amusingly, OK? (I just want the note first so I know when not to call and wake you up.) Also, at least the weather has gotten pretty, so you can sit outside and just bask.

*hug* I hope your finger heals up soon.

A.

Please feel free to call me - if you don't have my number, I'll send it. I'm up all day, until midnight-ish...

The books on tape might work, the other idea idunno - aside from the general discomfort and his fear of jostling fragile little broken me, a lot of things are made no-no's by the antibiotics interfering with birth control pills. :( Though that doesn't rule *everything* out....

Oh, you poor thing! The humans and puppies of the household all send their best wishes for a speedy recovery and minimal discomfort in the meantime.
