There are upsides to being fannish, and a larper.

For instance, when you're confronted with a Halloween party at the end of a hectic, insane month in which you haven't had the time to make dinner more than twice, let alone make the costumes you were planning for yourself and your husband, you don't need to worry. You don't need to panic, or give in to cheap one-size-fits-none corny store-bought costumes, or pretend you've caught the flu and call in your regrets that you won't be attending.

The biggest problem you're actually confronted with is deciding what to pull out of the closet.

Catwoman? Nah, I can't find the right ears.
Zatanna? Maybe, but that would mean fixing the lining in my tux jacket.
Garb? No, that's *too* obviously cheating.
Floofy Civil War-era dress? Entirely possible.
Poodle skirt? Only if my husband can find his matching letter sweater.
Kimono and fox mask? Lovely, but might be too obscure. Last time I wore it, I spent the entire night being called "geisha dog."
Wood-spirit/Puck outfit? It would be nice to get more use out of this.....
Pirate? You can never go wrong with a pirate costume.

Decisions, decisions....

Too true! In desperate straits, I can always fall back on Ren garb... but you're right, that feels like cheating. However, see my post from a couple of days ago about how easy my Halloween costume was this year, just from bits and pieces that I already had lying around.

"Geisha dog"??? That must have been a seriously non-fannish party!
