At long, long last, thanks to the dedicated work of my amazing and talented husband, my translations are all up on the web for public perusal!

For those of you who weren't previously aware, one of my many bizarre hobbies is translating 16th century Italian texts. I started with a dance manual, and have gone on to work on Commedia dell'Arte scenarios and a truly fascinating cookbook. The only one I've finished cover-to-cover is the dance manual, but I've got some interesting stuff from the other two texts as well.

They're probably only of serious interest to other people in the SCA, but anyone who's curious is welcome to take a look - they're at

It's not the prettiest or the tidiest web page ever, and the translations for the individual recipes from Scappi aren't at all organized, indexed, or inter-linked yet, but at least they're somewhere visible, and that's a start. From here, I can work on tidying things up - and this will also give me an incentive to get back to work and make more progress, most likely starting with the Commedia scenarios.

That can wait until tomorrow, though. Right now, I'm about to get to some seriously overdue sleep.

Have I ever told you how cool and impressive I think it is that you did that? Seriously, I have this note on the to-do list of life that I would like to try to attempt to translate something very old, that was inspired by you. =)

The ones I've tried have all been good, and they're pretty straightforward - Scappi puts a lot more detail into his recipes than some of the other sources I've seen.

I know of someone who is wanting to translate a math or accounting book (the author wrote on both subjects) and has been asking me how much Italian I know (very little.) It's former Carolingian Jeff Suzuki/Master William/Fuji/many other names, in case you know him. He might like some assistance. Yay! Glad to see that stuff up and running. Should I point my copy of the Caroso over to yours as the authoritative and more-likely-to-get-updated copy? (I should probably leave mine up for a while, so that pointers to interior pages still work, but I figure we should probably start weaning people over...)
