Good Day

Thank you to everyone who posted birthday wishes yesterday - I had a wonderful day. Not the most flashy or indulgent, but just about perfect all the same.

Most of yesterday was spent ramping up for the holidays - running errands to the grocery and to Penzey's Spices to stock up on baking supplies, then to the VFW Hall's annual tree sale to get our Holiday Tree and home to start my cookie baking. Molasses Spice cookies, Lemon Poppyseed Spirals, Pumpkin Spice Balls, Candy Cane Thumbprints, and Chocolate-Butterscotch fudge are all done, and the house smells amazingly of cinnamon, ginger, and pine.

Then out to dinner, meeting friends for dessert, and out to see the Boston Babydolls in a fabulous holiday show, including some of the most adorable numbers I've ever seen them perform. Yeah, a pretty amazing day.

Today's plans to go to yoga class and then to a friend's house for movie-watching and cooking were more or less destroyed by snow, so instead I'm taking advantage of the enforced home-time to finish our holiday prep. Cranberry Shortbread is in the oven, dough for Chocolate Cherry cookies is chilling, and a new thread crochet project is in the works. When my sweetie comes in from shoveling snow, we'll start decorating the tree; until then, I've got a Jim Butcher novel to keep me entertained.

Life is pretty darn good....

I especially loved 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' (Mina's always amazing, but she's outstanding in anything that lets her act while she dances) and 'Baby, It's Cold Outside' (because I had just been listening to it on the radio that morning and thinking that it would be perfect for one of Betty's pseudo-duets).
