The benefit of entering all of my husband's and my books on LibraryThing is that I'll finally have some idea of what books we own, and where they are, and hopefully have a much easier time answering the question of what to read next.

The down side is that, as I churn through his stacks and stacks of SF by authors I've either never heard of or never gotten around to reading, I keep finding books that sound... interesting. And adding them to my already voluminous to-read pile, simultaneously increasing my option paralysis and challenging my self-identification as the household fluff and fantasy junkie.

Poor, poor me.

husbands have a way of doing that. prior to marriage I read more serious fantasy and light SF he was the opposite. I haven't changed him much but I've read quite a bit of his stuff and liked it and discovered a love for some more serious SF writers.

That would be pretty much what happened to me. Everytime I start reshelving, I stall due to, "Oh, what's this one about?" And yes, the fantasy is mine, the sf is his. :)

LibraryThing is MOST excellent!!! I shall have to take a weekend and get all my books entered. I pulled 20 or so out of memory, but I'm not sure I got the right editions, so I'll have to go back and look. Recently found GoodReads.com, too, which I think is more for rating and chatting about books than cataloging them, but also much fun. In my most recent re-arrangement of my book collection I found several that I couldn't remember buying or otherwise acquiring. Having read a few of them, now, I realize WHY I acquired them, if not when or how. :D As to the to-read list, can't help you there. I have at least 5 books going at the moment for lack of being decisive about which one to read; drives most of my friends crazy (sorry!).

Hi *waves*

You don't really know me, though we know quite a lot of people in common. ([livejournal.com profile] jiggliusceasar & [livejournal.com profile] quarylla, [livejournal.com profile] wren13 & [livejournal.com profile] sebastian_tombs, etc.) It also turns out that another friend of mine, [livejournal.com profile] lorac, who lives in Quincy like me recently started taking her cats to see you and let me know that you were practicing in the area because I was complaining about there being no good small animal vets in the area. We've met once very briefly a couple years ago very late at night when [livejournal.com profile] sebastian_tombs was kind enough to find you because my husband and I were dealing with a rabbit veterinary emergency and couldn't find [livejournal.com profile] wren13.

In any case, [livejournal.com profile] jiggliusceasar mentioned you in a comment to one of my posts today and I finally made the "a ha!" connection of who you are so I figured I'd give a friendly wave and say hello.

Hi, and nice to meet you again! Apparently it really is a *very* small world, at least here on LJ... :)

How's your bunny doing?

Hiya! I think I broke poor lorac's brain when I told her that her vet was on LJ. Poor girl. World shrink twists her brain as much as it amuses mine.

Sadly, the bunny (Fuzzface) whom we needed the advice for at Arisia a few years ago has passed away. Fuzz died of kidney failure just after Arisia 2 years after the incident where I met you. On the other hand, she had a wonderful 6 and a half year life and has left quite an impression behind. Because of her, my husband and I have gotten involved with House Rabbit Network. We foster rabbits for them as well as volunteering in other capacities. Our original rabbit's bondmate (Beanbag) is now a grumpy old man of 9 and a half years old. The things we learned while caring for Fuzzface have helped us fight over the past year to bring one of our sickly foster rabbits back to health. We've also done things such as participating in a stray rabbit round up (http://ledger.southofboston.com/articles/2007/12/27/news/news05.txt) in Plymouth that has now been going on for 8 months. To date we've caught 32 rabbits.

Hey, cool, I get to be the second completely off-topic post here! (wry grin) I too am giving a wave and saying hello.

I've added you to my LJ-friends list after [livejournal.com profile] ladyqkat mentioned you. We have a handful of LJ-friends in common, and I'm interested in veterinary medicine as a second career. (All my posts about that are friendslocked because I haven't quit the current day job yet. That'll happen, if all goes well, this fall.)

I too am a fantasy junkie. Thumbs up. Hang in there during that difficult self-identification challenge. :)

Thank you! I'm sure I'll have questions closer to school application time. That part of the whole process terrifies me; I need two years of school just to get ready, which means two years sans income, and my fear is that I won't get accepted anywhere. Eh well; I know the risks going in. Anyway, thanks!
