Bad GM

I really, really, really ought to be writing character sheets.

I am so far behind that I hyperventilate when I think about it. I have no idea whether it's possible to finish the game in time. I *need* to spend every waking minute that I'm not at work writing.

But.... 'The Emperor's New Groove' is on. And I have pizza, and cookies. And it was a hell of a day at work today.

I can afford an hour of downtime, right?

It's hard to fight the power of pizza and cookies.

Beware the groove...groove.

It's so much work! The first and last time I worked on a LARP I wrote fifteen characters—maybe two-fifths of the total number in the game—and it utterly utterly pwned me. I guess it was largely that I had a full-time job as well, but it certainly felt like the hardest work I'd ever done. Good hunting!

I'm in about the same boat - I have 32 characters in this game. One other co-writer, which means I'll hopefully only have to write half, but.... I know myself, and I'll panic and write backup versions of at least half the rest Just In Case.

Plus working full-time. Plus performing with the Boston Babydolls next week. Methinks I might be just a tiny bit insane and overcommitted....

I feel your pain. We're very behind schedule on Puging Purgatory. But Chris has now gotten his computer functioning again which means we can both write simultaneously. We got a fair amount done last night. Of course, we've got hundreds more minicharacters to write.... eep!

Do take breaks. You'll write better if you do.

We're there too! Though with 4.5 writers (one non-GM helping out with editing and comments) and fewer characters (though we actually wrote more characters than we need for the game, particularly since we don't expect to need backup characters), we've got a smaller problem to start with.

Good luck!

This is fun

Remember, you are doing it because it is fun, and it is, but when you get stressed it is easy to forget. Writing can be (perhaps, should be) done with cookies and pizza, too.

I suggest ranking the characters in order of fun and write the most enjoyable ones first, just to get some momentum.

And yes, you can spare the time...

I'd go further, and say that it's crucial to get some downtime in. I've found that an important part of the discipline of a project like this is not letting it make me completely crazy -- and that means taking some much-needed breaks on a regular basis...
