Consumer bliss

I love having a job. Completely aside from the fact that I get to spend my days cuddling puppies and having geckos crawl on my shoulder, I've become quite attached to getting a paycheck. It's a novel feeling, to me, to be able to actually buy something for myself without having to debate which meals to miss to cover the cost.
Tonight we went out to the Cheesecake Factory. Sheer sugar-coated bliss.... their food is pretty standard Americana, good but not awe-inspiring, but dessert.... ooohhh. Dutch Apple Caramel cheesecake, with real, fresh apple slices, and hot caramel sauce, and whipped cream thick enough to stand your fork up in it. I think half the reason my friends go there with me is the amusement factor of watching me swoon.
I now have far too much sugar at home. Between the leftover cheesecake and the baklava that a client gave me I shouldn't have to eat or sleep for about a week.
Having a paycheck means I can also buy books without feeling guilty. This is a double goodness, since Border's just happened to have a copy of 'Jack of Kinrowan' sitting on the shelf, lonely and neglected. I loaned my copy out to a friend about six years ago, and have given up on ever seeing it again.
So. I now have a new-again Charles DeLint book to read, and scrumptious dessert in the fridge. The new copy of my cooking magazine arrived a few days ago. And while I have to work the emergency shift tomorrow, there are baby birds to play with and a stray kitten to keep me company while I hide outside the office, enjoy the sunshine, and pray that people decide the weather is too nice to worry about bringing their pets in.
Life is good.
