Going to the library today (I had a book-on-CD to pick up, and while I was there, of course, I also wound up picking up the new Ender novel, the Anticraft book, and a couple other things - I love the library; it's like impulse-buying, only free!) I saw, in line behind me to check out, a father and his adorable daughter. She looked to be maybe 8 years old, and had a stack of books that rivaled mine, including Diane Duane's 'So You Want to Be A Wizard.'

So many things about this make me happy that I don't know where to start. Parents taking their kids to the library. Kids wanting to read. Kids happening to read my favorite book from my own childhood... I mentioned that it was a favorite of mine, and the little girl gave me a shy smile and I got a nod and grin from the dad.

It's a small victory for families, for libraries, and for smartness and literacy in America....

I adored that book. It's heartwarming to know kids are reading it today.

Hear!Hear! I STILL love the Wizards books!!! Hoping the next Catwizards actually makes it into print and doesn't end up a strictly-e-novel. And Huzzah to parents (and Big Brothers/Sisters) who take their kids to the library!!!
