Intercon happened. It was fun. All of my games went well - better than I had anticipated, even. There was good dancing, socializing, hugging, and chatting. I didn't get to meet too many new people, which is a shame, but I did get to actually spend time talking to folks I know, which was nice - I've finally realized that taking some time to not play games is a winning situation.

Admittedly, I did almost die from inhaling Fresca at one point (do not try this at home. Not only is it impossible to breathe grapefruit soda, it hurts like nothing else I've ever experienced.), and I did wind up being used as an object lesson on the dance floor when someone attempted to force their way into my personal space (observers apparently took the opportunity to explain to one of the younger attendees that this was a living, breathing example of How Not To Behave), and I've got a light-saber shaped bruise on my upper thigh that is an alarming and unnatural shade of black. But in spite of all this, it was still an alarmingly good weekend.

One of the high points for me, actually, was the costume I managed to put together for my Friday night game. This was kind of surprising; I'm not much of a costumer, usually. I try to do my best, but I'm a workmanlike seamstress at best. This time, though, a synergy of wardrobe items, makeup, and other pieces came together into something pretty darn impressive - or so I was told. I'll let y'all judge for yourself:

The game was a cross-genre Science Fiction television setting, and I was cast as Chiana from Farscape, for those of you familiar with the show. Here's what I managed to put together....

(Careful observers may be able to detect the source of the lightsaber-shaped bruise.)

I'm pretty proud of how this came together, especially considering that I'm not very experienced with costume makeup, and that the wig is a $13 piece from a local costume shop. Though this did lead to the odd experience of people I've known for several years not recognizing me until I started to talk.....

Stunning! I too wouldn't have known you.

That's stunning. I somehow skipped the sentence in which you said right out that you'd been cast as Chiana, and so I was very pleased with myself for recognizing her right away. You have the body language down pat.

1) That doesn't look like you.
2) I'd totally chat her up, though.
3) That would be an awesome club outfit if you came dancing this Friday the 13th. (TT's. Or next month, April 10, which also happens to be my Natal Day.)

As it so happens, I'm planning on being at XMortis this Friday. :) Not in that outfit, though - the leather pants look great, but they're impossibly hard to move in....

Yay!

And then there was dancing.

Even more awesome in person than remotely. The upper two are a better indication of the impact of her makeup. Did not recognize this hot chick and the one I have known since RSVP.

And... if any other folks at Intercon got pics, we'd like to get copies...

Yeah, the makeup & wig -- really changes your look enough that I can definitely understand not recognising you.

I didn't read the explanation before I clicked on the cut and I totally thought to myself, "Hey! It's Chiana!"

(Incidentally, we should sort out a good day to hang out again in the near future.)

Would you believe I was just thinking the same thing? February was nutty, but I've got more free time this month. Whatcha doing next Wednesday?

Just to clarify: are we talking "next Wednesday," as in, "two days from now," or as in, "nine days from now?"

9 days - the 18th. Sorry for the confusion. :)

No problem, at all. I'm pretty sure that next Wednesday is free and clear for me.

Very good. I knew who it was supposed to be, and I've seen < 1 episode of Farscape.

And, I wouldn't've been able to tell it was you if you hadn't told me.

Also, totally hot.

I've always been a fan of the 'take a little time away from games' philosophy, which is why I instigated the Thursday Thing this year. Gaming is great, but hanging out with all these cool people is also great.

I was floored by your Friday costume, although I recognized it as you near immediately; perhaps I just got the right view of your eyes. The game itself had many excellent costumes, and makes me sad that I had no good idea what to do for a costume, and even less time to implement one. It would also have been cool to actually interact with you in the game, but everyone had so much going on I don't think the game suffered for lack of interactions.

And although there are no pictures here, I actually had more of a reaction to the Saturday costume. Of course, the reaction was to be deeply disturbed, but it was a reaction....

Oh, and just to followup, it was the excellent execution of the body language that Totally Nailed the character and sold the whole thing. Some of that comes across in the photos, but I want to tell those who didn't see it that it wasn't just the costume that made for the radical change.

Oh my god. You were, in fact, so well costumed that I did not recognize you. I had no idea until this very post that you played Chiana.

Oh, hey, you look nifty! Even I thought, "Hey, isn't that the chick from Farscape..." before I finished reading. And I haven't seen more than a few snippets of the show (yes, yes, there goes my geek cred *g*).
