I just realized that, while I've been talking about this here, it's been almost completely filtered to DC-area friends only.

[livejournal.com profile] umbran and I are planning on heading down to the Rally To Restore Sanity this weekend. Posters made, hotel room arranged, driving stories and music planned (trying to figure out what exactly constitutes 'protest songs' for something like this) and all that.

I know a handful of Bostonians who are making the trek, and DC locals who'll be there.... anyone else planning on going?

That sounds like a great deal of fun.

I recommend Tom Lehrer's "The Folk Song Army".

What do your posters say?

We had a few. My favorite of mine was one that just said "Things Are Pretty Okay" - I don't know how many people got the XKCD reference, but it matched the message of the event. I also had one that said "Let's Have Intercourse," but.... much to my dismay, nobody seemed to understand it, so that was retired pretty early in the event.

[livejournal.com profile] umbran had one that said "Don't Be A Dick," and another with a sacred chao....

Oh dear...
now I have to make a mix:

Rally to Restore Sanity (A-side) / Rally to Keep Fear Alive (B-side)
* Folk Song Army (thanks, Janetmiles)
* Mediocre Fred (Smothers Brothers)
* Relax (Frankie Goes to Hollywood)
* We Shall Overcome (Pete Seeger version)
* Slow Marching Band (Tull)
...and we'll have to see for the rest.

I'm shooting for meta protest songs, but I'll also take anything centrist. Considering "Left of Center" by Suzanne Vega, too.

Not going to be able to make it, but I'll be there in spirit -- hope it's both fun and energizing...
