Reflections On Watching Too Many Episodes Of The Sing-Off

Nicole Scherzinger - drug-addled whore, or alien synesthetic?

I have watched three episodes of this show in the past three days, and I honestly cannot tell. Every time I think I've made up my mind one way or the other, she comes up with some bizarre phrase out of left field and makes me change my mind all over again.

Also, is it just me or is Ben Folds the cosmically awesome love child of Bill Mumy and Bill Gates?

I have a feeling catching up on this season of Sing-Off will be my sanity roll while here at the in-laws this week. Been itching like CRAZY having been a Gleek in HS and Community Chorus/Theatre/Operetta.

Ben Folds is a GOD. His "Tribute to Merton", his duets, his harmony and piano work...I did a report for my cheesy, GenEd musical theory course at UMass on "Uncle Walter" back in the mid-90s. Love 'im.

My mom's new best friend down here was the manager for Boyz II Men, and she stays in close contact with them. So mom has been watching every episode and we watched the finale together, with the prep call from her friend to make sure we were going to see her boys.

We're still nowhere near caught up - halfway through the third episode, that's it. I had been keeping my ear out to hear when it was going to start, but somehow missed it.

Still, even watching online, it's a lot of fun. :)

We watch the DVR edited version of Sing-Off, which is to say that we watch the performances and _nothing_ else. Not the judges comments, not the heartwarming backstories, not the rehearsal footage, nothing. Just the performances, which we've been mostly enjoying.

We do the same thing with dance shows these days. We came to the realization that we're just not that interested in the judges' comments - we can appreciate what we want and comment with each other on the flaws we noticed or not; I don't need a TV personality to tell me their opinion of it. Plus, we save a ridiculous amount of time and can burn through 2-hour episodes in about 30-minutes.

We were very excited when the season started because we've been been fans of Jerry Lawson for years and have a couple of his albums with his old group, The Persuasions (they did an all a capella kids album that I adore).

Oh, don't get me started, I could go on for hours about this show. But if you want to see -real- competition semifinals, or the Harmony Sweeps regionals...
