In Lieu Of More Content

...and in an effort to fend off yet another horrible mood brought on by too many nightmares and family conflicts.

A little while ago I mentioned trying desperately to make a dress on my own, and a few folks asked to see pictures of it when it was done. I finished it last week, and actually managed to wear it to an SCA event.





Me, at the Dance Academy in Northpass. Wearing a dress I made all by myself. Okay, mermaidlady helped me make the pattern and cut out the pieces, but the construction was all solo, damnit. And it even kinda-sorta fits.

Apologies for all the pictures lately, and for those of you who wound up getting bombarded with this both here and on facebook, but... well, right now it's a lot easier than writing about what's going on inside my head, because it's not too pretty in there.

What everyone is saying about the dress, certes (but then, I was trained as a librarian). But I also want to put in a good word for the setting: the green grass and shrubbery, the grey stone wall, and the pink flowers (and hose) complement the dress very nicely. Pretty.

I'm sorry - I was panicky and uncomfortable enough about the picture being taken that I didn't pay enough attention to the backdrop. I honestly didn't notice the hose until you mentioned it here. I'm sorry; I'll try to be more careful about backgrounds in the future. :(

Might I point out that that was a compliment on the backdrop, hose included? (It is, I must agree, a hose that matches the flowers nicely and therefore does not at all detract from the view.) So an apology appears to me to be not at all in order.

It's just linen. I got about a thousand yards of it (give or take) many years ago, figuring on making a bias dress, but mermaidlady gently suggested that I just learn to make a cotehardie instead.

"Sorta" fits? I think you get a lot more credit than that. I saw it in person and moving around, and thought that it fit perfectly and looked lovely. And great choice of location for the picture!

Very nice. The belt reminds me that I occasionally get the urget to try weaving on an inkle loom but then sanity prevails (do not need another hobby...). :)
