After three or four days of progressively worsening dizzy spells, finally segueing into constant wobbliness and nausea, I bit the bullet and went to the emergency room last night. The doctor there eyed me skeptically, asked me several progressively more detailed questions, ran a bunch of inconclusive tests, and ultimately diagnosed me with Inner Ear Badness. Not in those words exactly, but that sums it up.

It's not an infection - that would be too easy, and far too cureable. This is apparently just some nasty mojo left over from a cold he insists I had but I don't remember living through. Apparently I'm going to spend the next two or three weeks in a world that is constantly doing slow barrel rolls to the left, and there's not much cure beyond patience.

I've got some anti-vertigo medication, that works fairly well as long as I can stay awake after taking it, and strict orders not to drive, operate heavy machinery, or make any sudden movements. This should make work fairly interesting..... Either way, this also means no dancing for me, possibly no dance practice at all, and very little journalling - staring at the screen tends to make things worse, and my typing is more creative than functional right now. I'll see y'all when the world starts standing still again....

I remember something like that back in high school, although I never did go to the doctor for it -- just, periodically, the world would start spinning and I'd turn faintly green. Lasted for several weeks, then went away and hasn't ever bothered me since. (Well, okay, I did have dizzy spells for several months after the accident two years ago, but that was concussion.)

I hope yours goes away quickly and doesn't come back.

Take care of yourself, sweetie! And if there's anything we can bring you, kill for you, or just coat with silly string, let us know, k?

Yes, like everyone else says, take care of yourself.

I've had an experience like that myself. (My world wasn't doing barrel rolls, the floor was constantly tipping forward and to the left.) It went on for about a week, then I went to the doctor. Like yours, he said it must have been from a cold I didn't remember having, and that there was nothing he could really do about it. It went on about another week or two, and it hasn't happened again since.

So courage, hugs, and take care of yourself.

That happened to me last spring--it caused some fairly interesting situations. It does get better eventually--just give it the time it needs. And don't ride the T anytime soon. That was a mistake and a half.

See you...

I had dizzy symptoms several months ago -- momentary inexplicable flashes of vertigo, at irregular intervals and lasting for irregular lengths before vanishing. It made driving and looking at circuit diagrams interesting. I still don't know what caused it, nor what made it go away.

When you get back, you are welcome.

I know we'll all miss hearing from you, but you'll be in our thoughts. I'd rather you save the settled thinking for the fuzzies and not-so-fuzzies at work.

I am just now coming out of that very experience!!
They put me on anti-biotics and, of course, the Anti-vert and anti-nausea stuff too. No fun at all. It can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. In my case- some 2+ weeks. It is down to about 15% now... from where I started, that is pretty damned good.

Good luck!!!

Speedy departure of dizzy spells is wished.
Be good to yourself while you are offline.
And continue the habit thereafter.

Eventually a combination of things happen, the worst of it goes away, and you just learn to live with the rest of it, and mostly stop even noticing it. That is the really good part. Take care of yourself. Pop in when you feel up to it.

My sympathies--I know someone who suffers periodically from inner ear trouble so I know how frustrating it can be. I hope yours recovers quickly and completely.
