I look more or less the same right now as I have for the past twelve years or more. In particular, I've been using the same hair color for that entire time. I also have the same hairstyle (long, straight), but I'm not willing to change that.

However, it's been months since I've colored my hair. And in the past few weeks, I've gotten a lot of compliments on the current color, which is a lot lighter and blonde-er than my usual new-penny red. And... while I like the bright, shiny copper, twelve years is a long time to stay the same.

So I'm - cautiously - considering changing my hair. I'm not quite ready to give up on coloring completely; my basic hair color is alarming in its blandness (not blonde, not brown, not red, just... sort of hair-colored). But I might at least be willing to try something less drastic than SUPER RED.

I've bought some henna; maybe I'll even get brave enough to try it.

I know; drastic change. But I am rather set in my ways, and for me this is a big step.

Of course, this doesn't even touch on the other big change that has been nagging at the corners of my mind - after being certain beyond certain that the pawprints were the only tattoo I'd ever want, I have fallen in love with another image and am desperately fighting the urge to get it inked onto my thigh. I need to put it on my mirror and look at it every morning for a year before I'm willing to make that leap, though. (Who was it who warned me that ink was addictive?)

I've used henna for years and really like how it works. Light Mountain is my favorite brand. It's super-messy and a good project to get a helper for, though.

I have no idea what color henna is, but please, for the sake of the beauty of almighty nature, don't go platinum beach-bunny blonde or Robert Smith El Marko black, and maybe leave at least some hint of red in there. Within those parameters, anything will be beautiful.

Henna is just a less aggressive red, and the coloring agent itself is natural, not a chemical dye.

I wound up with black hair once, accidentally (was going for navy blue) - trust me, I'll never do that again.

Yeah, I've heard that ink is addictive, too. :)

It will be interesting to see the new colour if I make it to Arisia.

I need to get my hair colored again, I go to a salon though (I do not have the equipment, patience or dexterity to put in my own highlights.)

My holy grail is to find a person I can trust to put in highlights and red lowlights in a gradient. (More blond on top and in front, more red at the bottom and back.) One guy I went to did this and it was awesome.

Hair is hard. Change is hard. Red is pretty.

No, go blonde!

I have lost count of the number of times I've changed hair color and style in the past few years. It's one of the easier things to change about yourself, and is easy to change back if you don't like it. Henna is just more red - I think you'd make a stunning blonde actually.

My natural color is a kind of dark blonde-ish... I've never thought about bleaching it, though.

I could see you as a strawberry blonde.

Having trouble envisioning what color "hair-color" is...

It's just.... too dark to be blonde, but too light to be brown, not quite bright enough to be red. Just... no real color in particular.

Henna or strawberry blond would both work for you.

Who was it who warned me that ink was addictive?

It may or may not have been me, but I'm living proof. ;-)

Being certain about an image is important, but arbitrary waiting periods may not be the right way to go. Have you considered having the image henna-ed onto you to see how it looks?
