As usual, I can't do anything by half-measures. I just returned from my local Urgent Care facility; apparently I have managed to catch the flu last week, and in the process of recovering from that came down with viral laryngitis, which then became superinfected with bacterial bronchitis.
The doctor didn't seem too concerned about me being contagious, but he also was fairly clear that it'll take quite some time for my voice to come back - and the more I try to use it, the longer it'll take. I'm out of work for at least today and tomorrow, possibly Wednesday as well. At that point, it'll depend on how the bronchitis is doing and how well I'm starting to recover. I'm under no illusions about my recovery; I know that as soon as I can I need to go back to work, and that because of that I'll be sounding like Marge Simpson for the next week or two, but such is life.
Right now I'm more frustrated than anything else. Until now, I've only had to call in sick twice over the past six years, and I'm feeling unprofessional and ashamed. Plus, this will be the second week in a row that I'm not able to work out - I made it through the dance on Saturday, but by now anything more active than puttering around the house is triggering crazy coughing fits - so I feel like a sedentary, blobby lump.
Luckily, I have books and crafting projects and DVDs to entertain me, and IM to let me communicate with the world, and I will survive this. That doesn't mean it's not irksome as hell, though.....
