Looking On The Bright Side

Good Things About Being Chronically Debilitated:
-Medicine that makes you too drowsy to function makes it much easier to tolerate enforced downtime.
-Loss of appetite conveniently balances decreased activity to avoid excess weight gain.
-After multiple days of being too sick to eat, chicken soup tastes like liquid heaven.
-Maine Root's Mexicane Cola can be used as a therapeutic substance.
-Cats love the unlimited lap time, and do their best to heal you with their magic purr and kneading powers.
-Plenty of time to catch up on your to-read list. (Relatedly, Catherynne M. Valente's 'Six-Gun Snow White' is the best thing I have read in a long, long time.)
-Significantly decreased fuel budget for car.
-Unbeatable opportunity to familiarize yourself with the content of Netflix Streaming and OnDemand. (Also relatedly, recommend to me your favorite series?)
-Good excuse to buy super-comfy pajamas.
-Finally getting at least 7 hours of sleep a night for the first time in my life.

Date: 2013-11-09 04:47 am (UTC)Netflix has seasons 1 and 2 of "Lost Girl". Season 3 starts up on Syfy/Hulu soon.
I'm also catching up on "Once Upon a Time" on Netflix.

Date: 2013-11-09 06:21 am (UTC)If you're open to anime, check out Trigun and Fruits Basket. (On a related note, for squee, the original Winnie-the-Pooh is on instant now.)
Also new series Sleepy Hollow which is thus-far on Hulu and the Fox website is pure concentrated awesome delight.

Date: 2013-11-09 04:58 pm (UTC)I'm breaking these down into 2 categories. First are the light (or at least lighter) series that I could easily see myself having watched (and enjoyed watching) while I was recovering from surgery. (I.e., I had a limited attention span and ability to follow complex plotlines, I sometimes dropped off to sleep and, generally, was rather doped-up.) The second category includes some great series, but they can be heavier in content or ... demanding of more un-addled brain power to follow (Leverage sticks out in that regard), making me wonder how well I would have done with those post-op.
Beyond that, these are in no particular order:
Light and Definitely Recovery-Friendly:
Gilmore Girls (yes it's old, but it's still worth it)
Bunheads
Sports Night
Eureka
The Defenders (goofy Vegas lawyer humor -- light and fun)
Absolutely Wonderful but Heavier/Harder to Follow
Leverage
White Collar
Downton Abbey
The West Wing
House
Six Feet Under
Battlestar Galactica
Caprica
Monk
Firefly
Scandal
Prime Suspect
Buffy
Grey's Anatomy
Mad Men
Arrow
The Good Wife
In Plain Sight
Medium (it got a bit inconsistent in the penultimate season, but I still recommend it -- the early seasons were great, as were the last few episodes)
I've heard great things about Orange is the New Black but I haven't watched it yet. Same with Portlandia.
I've recently become hooked on Breaking Bad, but I can't in good conscience recommend that to someone who's dealing with the stresses of a chronic injury. To me, the potential for going off the deep end is just too high, but Teem disagrees; he thinks the real risk is that it could give someone too many (bad) ideas.
I loved Burn Notice, but I suspect it might be too shoot-y explodey for you.
